Having one-on-one conversations with voters is some of the most powerful work in community organizing. It's also some of the hardest.
To make every canvassing shift smoother, more informed, and a little more enjoyable, we’re introducing a set of improvements to Organizer’s mobile canvassing app. Organizer, our outreach and organizing platform, is built specifically to support the critical work of community organizations.
Many organizations are ramping up door-to-door canvassing efforts ahead of elections. Organizer's new mobile app enhancements give volunteers and staff better context for conversations, clearer visibility into their progress, and a few well-timed moments of encouragement along the way.

What's New in the Organizer Mobile Canvassing App?
We've launched six enhancements to the mobile canvassing app, all guided by a single idea: the people talking to voters one-on-one deserve tools that work as hard as they do.
Every update is designed to reduce friction, add helpful context, or keep momentum up in the field—so canvassers can focus on the conversations that build community power.
#1. Spot Houses vs. Apartments Quickly and Easily

Canvassers can now easily identify an apartment and condominium on their map (via a square icon), helping them know what to expect before they arrive. This has been one of our most-requested features, and for good reason. Walking up to a single-family home is a different experience from approaching a building with dozens of units. When canvassers can tell the two apart at a glance, they can mentally prepare for the interaction, plan their route more efficiently, and avoid the small surprises that slow a shift down.
In some cases, your turf may include just one unit at a larger complex. The heads-up matters here: canvassers know to look for a specific entrance, unit number, or buzzer rather than a front porch, so they can find the right door faster and approach it with confidence.
Keep in mind: a multi-dwelling location may still mean a single door to knock. Many apartment buildings have one entry point before you reach individual units.
#2. See Contact History Before You Knock

When viewing a person's profile in the app, canvassers can now select View Contact History to see previous interactions your organization has had with that individual.
Context changes everything in a doorstep conversation. This feature lets canvassers see whether someone has been reached before—through email, phone calls, or past canvassing—whether previous attempts were made, and results from previous attempts. That means:
- Canvassers can acknowledge past attempts and build on them.
- Volunteers can pick up the thread instead of restarting it.
- Every interaction adds to a fuller, more accurate picture of your community.
Contact History stays tucked away until a canvasser looks for it, so the interface stays clean and focused—and the context is ready when they need it.
One thing to consider: because this history loads from your data, canvassers will want to be online when they open Contact History, or to have viewed it at least once while connected. If someone is working in airplane mode and hasn't opened this area yet, those past interactions won't be available until they reconnect.
#3. Preview the Full Script Anytime to Build Confidence

Canvassers can now review an entire Script on their own, without selecting a real person from their list.
Before this update, the only way to see a Script was to open it for an actual contact—which meant any practice run risked entering or submitting data for someone at a real address. Now, volunteers and staff can walk through the Script freely, one question at a time, without choosing a live contact and without any chance of recording a response by mistake.
Scripts in Organizer guide a canvassing conversation, so it helps to know exactly what's coming. Canvassers can review the Script before a shift or during a pause between doors—a safe, low-pressure way to get familiar with the flow. That's especially useful when it's been a while since training or a volunteer simply wants to feel prepared before they knock.
#4. Contact Support Right From the App

Canvassers can now email Organizer’s Support team directly from the mobile canvassing app, making it easier to resolve issues quickly in the field.
We recommend that canvassers always reach out to their campaign point person first for support and to solve any issues that arise. If they’re unable to resolve the issue, canvassers can submit specific details to Support right from the app.
You'll find this in two places in the app, including a Send Feedback option in the same action menu as the Script preview—so canvassers can flag an issue without leaving their turf.
#5. Track Your Progress Through a Turf Visually

Canvassers can now see their team’s progress through a turf on a visual progress bar.
A turf in Organizer consists of the set of doors assigned for canvassing, and often, several people work the same turf together. The progress bar reflects the total attempts across everyone assigned to that turf. If you're canvassing solo, that's simply your own progress. If you're working alongside teammates, it's your collective progress as a group—one shared view of how far the whole team has come.
Seeing the progress bar helps canvassers stay oriented, connected, and motivated. This helps canvassers understand how far they’ve come, how much remains, and turns a long list of addresses into visible, shared accomplishment that builds team morale.
#6. Encouragement Alerts to Keep Spirits High

The mobile canvassing app now sends encouragement alerts at specific points as canvassers move through their work.
We know how demanding this work can be. Unanswered doors, long days on your feet, the occasional tough conversation—it adds up. We also know how good it feels to make real progress and finish a turf.
To recognize that effort, the app now surfaces friendly, well-timed messages like "You're halfway through!" These small moments of encouragement remind canvassers that their work is seen and that every door counts. It's a little delight built right into the day.
